• H4 is for spouse/children of H1B holder
• Cannot work without H4 EAD
• Can study full-time or part-time
• Can get driver's license
• Apply for SSN only after getting H4 EAD

H4 EAD Eligibility

You may be eligible for work authorization if:

• H1B spouse has approved I-140
• H1B spouse is in 7th year extension based on I-140
• File I-765 with supporting documents
• Processing can take 3-6 months
• EAD must be renewed before expiry

Maintaining H4 status:

• DO: Keep H4 status valid by timely extensions
• DO: Apply for H4 EAD renewal 6 months in advance
• DON'T: Work without valid EAD
